Spectacular Local Wildlife
Every autumn grey seals come ashore to have their pups on the sheltered beaches of Pembrokeshire.

Watch quietly from the cliff tops in September and October to see mother and baby seals basking in their natural surroundings.
The area is also a haven for seabirds such as gannets, puffins, storm petrels, razorbills etc... attracted by the plentiful fish brought to the surface by the rushing tides of Ramsey Sounds. Look out for choughs and skylarks on the grassy slopes and gannets and porpoise out to sea. Ramsey Island itself is a Nature Reserve run by the RSPB – you can visit this special island during the summer by taking the boat from St Justinians.
Ramsey Island has its own colony of Atlantic Grey Seals, which use the sheltered coves to pup in the months of August, September and early October. They also use the pebbly beaches here to rest after rough weather. Visitors must therefore keep a respectful distance of these inquisitive creatures as this is their home too.
Many of the chartered boat trips adhere to the Pembrokeshire Marine Code which is designed to encourage responsible and sustainable usage of the Pembrokeshire Coast with a view to protecting and conserving the wide diversity of flora and fauna.
Not only do we have the resident plethora of British wildlife on our shores with some resident pods of dolphins and porpoises but we also have a wide varity of visiting wildlife. Whales, risso dolphins, basking sharks, turtles and even orcas visit our coastline every year and you are a very lucky person if you can watch them passing by.

The North of the county is the base for Seatrust, a registered charity which undertakes year round surveys of all wildlife from whales to plankton from our Irish ferries and chartered boat trips as they monitoring cetecean activity off the Pembrokeshire Coast. They regularly organise public shorebased porpoise survey evenings at Strumble Head, Fishguard, so keep your eye out for these in the Pembrokeshire Coast National park Authority's visitor's magazine Coast to Coast.
